George Hill was born in Kahnawake, Mohawk Territory, on December 8th, 1929, and it could be said that his show business sense came from his father, a Mohawk, who appeared in 2 movies, and his mother of Scottish heritage, who was a Highland dancer. They met one night at a sailor's concert, and the rest is history, as the saying goes.
George is adamant about stressing the point that he is a Mohawk of today.., not of 400 years ago. This only proves once more that George lives his life looking and planning for tomorrow, and does not dwell on the past.
His life has been lived to the fullest when you take into account the fact that he has pretty much traveled the world. Overseas, he has been to Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. He takes pride in telling anyone who will listen that he has traveled Canada "from Newfoundland to British Columbia". Some of the cities in the US that are worth noting are Las Vegas, Hollywood, and Nashville, and he has been to Mexico.
George's unique prowess in the area of promoting a product came as no fluke. As far back as 1952, while working for the Stern Bros. advertising company in New York City, George designed the first color TV poster ever seen. More recently he designed the "Indians of Quebec" flag which stands for "As long as the sun shines and the grass grows, and the rivers flow, we have rights". The "Save James Bay" stamp is another of George's creations.
However, throughout the span of his working career, George did every job between advertising and iron working. In his own words, "he has done it all".
Other achievements that George takes special pride in was his involvement in politics... he was named Special Assistant to the President and all the Chiefs of Quebec, a position which he held for 10 years. Before and during the "James Bay" Court case, he was appointed Director of Indian Rights and Treaties.
Today, with Mohawk Hills Golf Resort solidly established, George is once again turning his focus towards music with yet another up and coming CD in the works. Watch this site for further developments on this latest project.
